Pure nature, protection and connection
At Walkers’ Wool, everything revolves around moving in harmony with nature. Our story was born in the green hills of Eastern Asturias, where founder Cecilia van Berkum—who has lived since 2019 in a small village near Arriondas—herds a flock of sheep of the indigenous Xalda peopleAs a livestock farmer, she recognized the value of her animals’ fine wool, and being Dutch, she was already familiar with the benefits of “walking wool.” When hikers from her home country began regularly asking for it, everything fell into place: the local wool and the proven need came together.
Our essence: local value, wide versatility
In collaboration with an artisanal wool laundry and carding workshop in Segovia, we wash and card the pure, untreated wool from our own Xalda sheep and from other local flocks. This careful process makes the wool fluffy and soft, perfect for shaping into a protective layer. Our product is designed for anyone who values walking freely and without discomfort—whether on a day hike, a multi-day mountain trek, or a pilgrimage. Walkers’ Wool is the natural, reusable, and affordable choice for healthy feet.
The connection is at the centre
More than a product, we want to be a bridge. A connection between the millennia-old tradition of Asturian sheep farming and the modern outdoor sports community. A link between the Camino de Santiago, its hospitaleros, albergues, mountain guides, and the pilgrims and walkers on the route. Collaborating with local shops, mountain guides and the hospitality sector, we want to be part of the web that helps and welcomes hikers.

Walkers' Wool: your natural ally en route
A Dutch woman settled in eastern Asturias launched Walkers' Wool a few months ago, an alternative that prevents chafing while walking and aims to valorize the native Asturian breed.
