Frequently asked questions
Here we resolve the most common doubts before setting off on the trail.
Is it hygienic?
Yes. Each pilgrim uses their own wick and it is not shared. One wick lasts for several days of walking without needing to be washed.
And wool doesn't cause a reaction?
No. It is a traditional method used for centuries by shepherds and hikers. It is not a medical product or a dressing: it is a natural resource that many people understand and appreciate when they try it.
Is the wool dirty or does it smell of the stable?
No. The wool we use is washed and carded. It is soft, clean, and doesn't retain odours. Xalda wool has natural antibacterial properties.
Can it be washed?
There's no need to wash it for several uses. If the pilgrim wishes, they can discard the wick and use a new one each day, but the product is designed to be reused for several days or weeks depending on usage.
How long does a container last?
A 10g container can last several weeks, even months, depending on usage, the area of application, and the intensity of the hike.
When should it not be used?
It is not recommended on open blisters, wounds, or signs of infection. In such cases, it is advisable to consult healthcare personnel or a nearby health centre.
